-- Iran’s global share of stone trade below 1%
Despite being ranked fourth in stone reserves worldwide, Iran’s share in international stone market transactions remains surprisingly low, at less than one percent, the international vice president of the Iranian Stone Association said Monday.
Mohammad Hallajian said the unmatched diversity of stones found in Iran is a factor that positions the country as a global leader in this sector. However, he expressed concern over Iran’s meager participation, benefiting from less than one percent of the $35 billion global stone market.
-- IranAir says seven grounded planes to resume services soon
Iran’s flag carrier IranAir said seven of its planes that have remained grounded in recent years because of US sanctions will resume services within the next six months.
IranAir CEO Shamseddin Farzadipour said the planes will be restored to the airline’s fleet as part of a comprehensive domestic repair program. “Our priority is domestic repair and seven planes will become airworthy in the next six months,” Farzadi was quoted as saying by ILNA.
-- MoU signed on increasing ethane extraction from SP
The National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on increasing ethane extraction from the nine refineries of the South Pars Gas Field.
Speaking in the signing ceremony on Monday, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji said ethane extraction from the nine refineries will generate a $250-$300 million profit per annum.

-- Iran Marks U.S. Downing of Passenger Plane in 1988
Iran on Monday commemorated the 35th anniversary of the downing of its passenger plane by a U.S. navy guided-missile cruiser over the country’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf, which martyred all 290 people on board. During a memorial ceremony, local officials and the families of the tragedy’s victims tossed flowers into the waters near the site of the crash.
Chanting slogans such as “Down with the U.S.” and “Down with Israel,” the participants condemned the inhumane U.S. crime and expressed their utter disgust at the criminal act.
-- WSA: Iran’s Steel Production Ranking Improves
Iran produced 3.3 million tons of steel in May 2023, registering an 8.8 percent growth compared to the same period last year, the World Steel Association (WSA) reported on Monday.
Producing over 3.3 million tons of steel in May 2023, Iran stood at the seventh place in the global ranking and this is for the second month in a row that Iran’s ranking has improved among the world’s steelmakers.

-- “A Good Day Coming on!” celebrates Iranian children’s literature day
Iran’s Institute for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults – Kanoon is celebrating the National Day of Children’s Literature in a book fair entitled “A Good Day Coming on!”
Children’s books about emotions – happiness and sadness – are currently on view at the fair and the celebration will reach its climax on July 9, which is the National Day of Children’s Literature, Kanoon announced on Sunday. Among the books is Swedish-Dutch writer Marit Törnqist’s “The Island of Happiness”, which has been translated into Persian by Mohammad-Hadi Mohammadi.
-- Visits to Gilan historical sites up 50% in spring
Visits to historical sites and monuments across the northern Gian province have jumped some 50 percent during the first three months of the current Iranian calendar year compared to the same period last year. “Visits to the cultural heritage sites and historical monuments of the province increased by 50% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year,” Gilan province’s tourism chief said on Monday.
Some five million visits to those destinations have been registered during the first three months of the current year, Vali Jahani said.
-- Iran exports 37,000 tons of farmed shrimp to 21 countries
Iranian shrimp farmers exported 37,000 tons of products in the previous Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20), an official with Iran Fisheries Organization (IFO) said, adding that the country is currently exporting shrimp to 21 countries.
According to Vahid Madani, the director general of IFO’s Office of Shrimp and Saltwater Aquatic Affairs, said that Russia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), China, Qatar, and neighboring Turkey are currently the top importers of Iranian shrimp.
